Sector context

Sourcing for food & beverage

Food-sector sourcing carries a documentation burden that other categories do not. Phytosanitary requirements, treatment certificates and origin evidence are frequently conditions of import rather than optional extras, and they need instructing early enough to exist by the sailing date.

Specification here often includes parameters that are invisible on inspection — moisture that governs shelf stability, foreign matter limits that reflect a food-safety threshold rather than a commercial preference.

We take these on a mandate basis against a written requirement. Where a specification cannot be met reliably from the Indonesian supply base, that is more useful to know at enquiry stage than after contracting.

Buying criteria

What decides acceptance in this sector

These are the parameters we build a specification around, because they are the ones that determine whether a lot is usable.

  1. 01

    Documentation completeness

Conditional certificates identified and instructed against the sailing date, not the loading date.

  2. 02

    Moisture and shelf stability

Parameters tied to storage behaviour rather than to appearance at inspection.

  3. 03

    Foreign matter thresholds

Set by food-safety limits, verified by sampling rather than declared.

  4. 04

    Origin evidence

Where the buyer's own compliance system requires it.

Failure modes

Where sourcing goes wrong here

Screening is built around these, because they are the problems that actually recur in this sector.

  • Conditional certificates instructed too late

Testing and treatment take time. We build the document timeline backwards from the sailing date so nothing is instructed the day before loading.

  • Destination rules that change

Import requirements vary by destination and are revised. We confirm the applicable set during qualification rather than assuming last shipment's set still applies.

  • Condensation damage in transit

Tropical origin to a cooler destination creates container rain. Loading dry, with liners or desiccant where appropriate, prevents most of it.

A specification, a volume and a destination are enough to start. We come back with what is sourceable, on what terms, and what it depends on.

Documentation we coordinate

  • Commercial Invoice
  • Packing List
  • Bill of Lading
  • Certificate of Origin
  • Certificate of Analysis
  • Phytosanitary Certificate
  • Fumigation Certificate
  • Inspection Report

Document availability depends on product type, origin, destination regulation and commercial agreement. We confirm the applicable document set for your shipment during requirement qualification, before any offer is issued.
