About coconut shell charcoal
Coconut shell charcoal is produced by carbonising mature coconut shell in kilns or pits. It is valued chiefly as feedstock for activated carbon because of its hard, microporous structure, and secondarily as a clean-burning industrial and consumer fuel.
Fixed carbon and ash are the two parameters that determine commercial grade. Buyers producing activated carbon typically work to a fixed-carbon floor and an ash ceiling; buyers in fuel applications are usually more concerned with moisture, volatile matter and lump size.
Because carbonisation is largely a small-producer activity in Indonesia, consistency across lots is the real sourcing challenge. We address that by screening producers on repeatability, not just on a single sample.
