Yes, once a requirement is qualified and a supply route identified. Samples are drawn from the intended supply rather than from a separate batch, and sample and courier costs are agreed in advance.
It depends on the commodity and the shipment mode. A single container is a normal starting point for most lines, and a trial container against an approved sample is often the sensible first step before committing to a schedule.
