Overview
About wood pellets
Wood pellets are produced by drying, grinding and densifying wood residue into a uniform cylindrical fuel. The uniformity is the point: consistent size and moisture allow automated feed systems and predictable combustion behaviour.
Industrial buyers typically work to a recognised standard framework covering diameter, length, moisture, ash, durability and fines. Durability and fines matter operationally, because pellets that break down in transit foul handling equipment on arrival.
Feedstock traceability is increasingly part of the specification rather than an afterthought. Where a buyer requires documented feedstock origin, we establish whether the supplier can evidence it before quoting rather than after.
Typical applications
- Industrial boiler fuel
- Biomass power generation and co-firing
- District and commercial heating
- Drying and process-heat applications

Available grades
Industrial grade
For power and large boiler applications where ash tolerance is wider.
Premium grade
Tighter ash, fines and durability parameters. Confirm availability before contracting.
Buyer-specified grade
Sourced against the buyer's written standard, subject to producer confirmation.

Typical and target parameters
Use these to frame your enquiry. The parameters that matter to you should be stated in your RFQ so we can source against them directly.
| Parameter | Typical / target range | Reference method |
|---|---|---|
| Diameter | 6 mm or 8 mm | Calliper measurement |
| Length | 10 – 40 mm | Manual measurement |
| Moisture | ≤ 10% | ISO 18134 |
| Ash content | ≤ 3% (industrial grade) | ISO 18122 |
| Calorific value | 4,000 – 4,600 kcal/kg | ISO 18125 |
| Mechanical durability | ≥ 97% | ISO 17831-1 |
| Fines (< 3.15 mm) | ≤ 1% | ISO 18846 |
| Bulk density | 600 – 700 kg/m³ | ISO 17828 |

Supply and sourcing notes
- Sourced through verified production sites rather than from owned capacity.
- Availability against a specific standard is confirmed before a firm offer is issued.
- Feedstock documentation requirements should be raised at enquiry stage, not after contracting.
Quality control
How we check wood pellets
- 01
Specification and applicable standard agreed in writing before sourcing
- 02
Production-site screening and reference checks
- 03
Pre-shipment sampling for moisture, ash, durability and fines
- 04
Bag weight and count verification
- 05
Loading supervision with photographic records
- 06
Third-party inspection and laboratory testing can be coordinated where required
Documentation
Documents typically available
- Commercial Invoice
- Packing List
- Bill of Lading
- Certificate of Origin
- Certificate of Analysis (where testing is instructed)
- Inspection Report (where inspection is instructed)
Document availability depends on product type, origin, destination regulation and commercial agreement. We confirm the applicable set during requirement qualification.
Quality & compliancePlease note. Nothing on this page constitutes a guaranteed specification or an offer of held stock. Final specification, availability, volume and price depend on supplier confirmation and the terms agreed between the parties in writing.
